This is perhaps one of the most moving stories I’ve read this year. Thank you for sharing your authentic life and thoughts. Thank you for sharing Alan with us. Thank you for reminding us of the most important thing: loving others.
Oh, Jennifer!! I followed my internal Google map from Liberty to Trinity and other places as I stepped through every single one of your words. No tears, for the moment, but there's definitely something in my throat. It's the etheral goodness of hearing from an ever nearby and always-in-my heart neighbor. May the Good LORD my God ever continue to pour out His love, grace and Goodness on you Jennifer, on you Justin, on you London, and on you Eve.
I am VERY late to commenting on this, but I have to. I had saved this article to my Kindle back when it was published, and then life happened. Tonight, I happened to be out somewhere waiting in my car, and I decided to pull out my Kindle and read back over some articles I had missed. This was one of them.
Floods of unexpected tears. This was so beautifully and powerfully written, and I feel so blessed by it. Thank you for sharing this story with us. Thank you for being Alan's neighbor, and letting him be yours.
I love everything you write, but this has to be one of my favorites. Maybe because I was born in Arkansas, maybe because it reminded me of some of my O Ricardo❤️uncles, friends, acquaintances, maybe it was the mood I am
In today??? It really doesn't matter but just wanted to let
you know you touched my
heart in such a special way today, thank you very much.
I’m sitting at my desk at work. My desk faces the window door into a hallway right in fro t of the elevators in the building we are in. I’m going through my personal email and decide it’s a good time to read this article. I didn’t realize I would have tears streaming down my face! This right here is what the world needs! Jennifer you are such a story teller. You bring us right into your memories. I am so sorry about y’all’s friend passing; I’m sure all 4 of you were a great blessing to his life as he was to y’all.

I could write another story about the neighbor you’ve been to me, Gil! Love you!!
